On 7 December 2023, researchers from the Technical University of Munich published their next WINTHER peer-reviewed paper in Nature Biomedical Engineering. In the paper, led by Dr. Angelos Karlas, the researchers use Fast-Raster Scan Optoacoustic Mesoscopy (F-RSOM) to identify, analyze and correlate microangiopathy phenotypes with diabetes stage/progression. The study is aided by machine learning techniques, which enable the multiscale interpretation of biomarkers. The paper is a major breakthrough for using optoacoustic imaging techniques for diabetes monitoring.
